The Wayfarer is a hybrid class, utilizing both ranged attacks and defensive spell casting. As with other dual classes , you will need to decide if you want to spread evenly or focus in one aspect. And if you change your mind, there is always the option of retraining your character .
Starting a Wayfarer in Divinity Original Sin 2
The default Wayfarer class has 2 Finesse, 1 Intelligence, 1 Huntsman, 1 Geomancer, 1 Bartering; Pin Down, Elemental Arrowheads, Fossil Strike skills, and Pet Pal Talent. This step-up is decent but can be further improved, especially when using Gift Bag modifications.
The Wayfarer class should balance out ranged attacks and magic. Concentrate on boosting the damage of your ranged attacks with 3 Finesse only. Crossbows should be your main weapon for large damage, but also consider bows if you want to avoid the movement penalty. Be sure to also stock up on different arrows, which can change your elemental damage and cause some status effects. While normally boosting your character’s bonus Civil Ability (Bartering on humans, Loremaster on Elves, etc) is helpful, consider specifically going for Stealth or Telekinesis.
Elemental Arrowheads is a good way of further diversifying your damage since you can use any nearby surfaces to change or increase your damage. Ricochet is a good way to attack multiple enemies in one attack. Last, pick either Poison Dart or Contamination , depending on your race and party setup; particularly if you are an Elf like Sebille, who can make blood surfaces with Flesh Sacrifice. For first Talents go for Elemental Affinity to lower your AP costs or Elemental Ranger for more damage against enemies standing on surfaces.
Leveling Up a Wayfarer in Divinity Original Sin 2
Since you have access to so many skills, it might be helpful to get a few points of Memory at second or third level. Otherwise, go for Finesse to increase your overall damage. After that attribute is maxed, go for Wits or Intelligence. Huntsman will be key to acquire certain important abilities. Because you can deal several damage types, go for Ranged ; this gives an additive boost to all arrow elements, making it slightly weak but extremely versatile. Warfare , Geomancer , Pyrokinetic , and other combat skills will multiply the damage of specific elements. Last get at least 1 in Perseverance unless you have it on a piece of gear you plan to upgrade with the Sorcerous Sundries Gift Bag.
For new Talents, try out Arrow Recovery to save on expending arrows, Duck Duck Goose to escape danger, Executioner for more AP, Far Out Man to increase spell range, and Guerilla to launch first strikes from stealth.
